We recently visited Leisure United Woodbourn Road in Sheffield as part of our preparations to resurface the original 3G pitch at The New Croft. Our CEO, Peter Betts, Head of Foundation, Warren Lewis-Claxton, and Operations and Facilities Manager, Tracy Thomas, made the trip to explore the latest advancements in sustainable pitch technology.

Leisure United, a charitable trust running the site known for its cutting-edge facilities, is home to six 3G football pitches that serve as test beds for The Football Foundation. These pitches are used to compare various environmentally friendly and sustainable infills designed to replace the traditional rubber crumb, which has long been the industry standard.

During our visit, we met with Chris Barry, Technical Advisor at The Football Foundation to gain valuable insights into the performance, environmental impact, and durability of the different infill options. This visit was essential in helping us ensure we select the best possible surface for our facility, with sustainability and player experience at the forefront of our decision-making.

Our original 3G pitch, constructed in 2016, has been a cornerstone of local football and community activity. As we move forward with resurfacing plans, this visit marked an important step toward upgrading our facility to meet modern standards while embracing environmentally friendly practices.

Peter Betts, our CEO, reflected on the visit: “The trip to Leisure United has been incredibly valuable in helping us understand the innovative options available for 3G pitch surfaces. We’re committed to making an informed decision that benefits both the community and the environment.”

We remain dedicated to creating a top-tier sports facility in Haverhill. This resurfacing project highlights our ongoing commitment to supporting community sports and sustainability. Stay tuned for more updates as we progress with this exciting project!
