The New Croft is delighted to announce its sponsorship of Ruby Grey, a promising and rapidly rising talent in the world of darts. As a community facility that serves as a hub for various events and activities, The New Croft is proud to support Ruby on her journey to becoming the UK’s leading female darts player.
At just 15 years old, Ruby has already made a remarkable impact on the national darts scene. Her recent triumph at the England Open Festival of Darts in Ilfracombe, Devon, where she clinched the Girls’ title, has firmly established her as a player to watch. Ruby’s victory, which included an impressive win over Scotland’s junior world number two, Sophie McKinlay, has put her in a strong position to secure a spot on the England national team.
Peter Betts, CEO of The New Croft, expressed his enthusiasm for supporting Ruby: “We were delighted to be able to offer Ruby some support in her journey to becoming the UK’s leading female darts player. Darts is a sport that so many people now enjoy playing and watching in the UK, and having a young female player like Ruby, who is from Haverhill and has the potential to reach the top, is something we are really excited about supporting.”
Ruby’s journey, which began just before the Covid-19 pandemic under the guidance of her father, has seen her progress rapidly through local leagues in Haverhill and Sudbury, the Haverhill Ladies Super League, and the Suffolk Youth team. Despite the challenges she has faced, including a devastating house fire last year, Ruby’s resilience and dedication have never wavered. With support from the local community, including family friends who provided her with a new dartboard, she has continued to hone her skills and push forward in her career.
As part of our partnership with Ruby, The New Croft is not only providing financial support but also involving our staff and partners to offer their expertise in areas that will benefit Ruby on her journey. “Everyone appreciates that sometimes potential needs support from other areas to ensure it is reached. We at The New Croft are sure Ruby’s drive to reach the top should inspire other young people to grasp similar opportunities, which will increase participation within the sport,” added Betts.
Looking ahead, Ruby is preparing to compete in two major tournaments in September—the England Masters in Selsey, Sussex, and the British Classic in Bridlington, East Yorkshire. These events are crucial as she continues her bid for a national team spot, and The New Croft is excited to stand by her side as she pursues her dreams.
The New Croft is a versatile community facility available for hire for all types of events, from sports and recreational activities to social gatherings and corporate functions. We are committed to supporting local talent and promoting a sense of community in Haverhill and beyond.
